As others have asked, who needs these upgrades?
These days I spend most of my time at work writing documents and working with spreadsheets to track various metrics and produce graphs to show interesting trends. The most programming I do is writing vba code in excel to process the data, pull it out from other spreadsheets, databases etc. Without explaining why, I am in the funny position of using 3 computers simultaneously to do my work. One has Office 2000, the other Office 2003 and on my laptop I have Office 2007 Beta. In all honesty there is simply no new functionality between these 3. Anything I can do and need to do in Office 2007, I can do just as well in Office 2000. Apart from very minor changes there really does not seem much to separate these 3 different versions apart from the user interface.

One thing that I found quite alarming though is that a 40 page document with a couple of diagrams from MS Project and some spreadsheets from Excel that I have just produced in Word 2007 came out to be 550 kB when using the Word 97-2003 format. When I copied it from the one machine to the other I opened the same document in Word 2000. I didn?t make any changes to it but I saved it and this same document is now 410 kB. The document still looks the same in all versions of Word. So not only do these new versions of Office offer you next to nothing in new functionality, they also bloat your documents for unknown reasons. Wow, great progress.
