Isn't it about the same?
Isn't it about the same situation on the Windows side? Microsoft
continues to "embrace and extend" whatever they want into the
Windows platforms. So many Windows software companies have
to plan to be acquired by MS or destroyed by them at some
point in their corporate life.

IMO many third party Mac apps will come from Linux growth. As
Linux on the desktop becomes a market force, more software
publishers will be inclined to write apps to Linux or lose a
significant portion of their market.

Many Linux apps run on OS X today, and porting other Linux/
Unix apps to Mac is much less work than writing them from
scratch.
