IBM team is doing fine
<< IBM should STRONGLY push for an order stopping SCO from taking out Lawsuits as the court has not assigned any of the Unix Copyrights on source code. >>

IBM's legal team has been doing a truly excellent job of handling the case. I wouldn't presume to give them any advice about what they should do. SCO's TTL is now measured in weeks. They misquoted case law in the Novell filing...judges love that, it's right up there with lying to the bench. IBM was patient and gave them a lot of latitude and when it got the farce stage they rolled out the nukes. Game over. Please insert 25 million to continue.

The truth is we may not ever really know all of IBM's motives. They came out looking like a white knight to the OSS community, but I think that was only conicidental. It was a Standard Oil move. Back in the 30's Standard Oil headed out and everyone else fell in line behind them. When IBM headed out with Linux they got Novell, HP, AMD, Intel and a bunch of others to fall into line with them. Now it looks like IBM and the rest of the world on one side and MS on the other, tainted by their association with SCO. That may not be the reality, but IBM sure did a good job of packaging it that way.

MSFT getting mixed up with SCO had to be one of the dumbest moves in the history of the company. How they thought anything good could ever come out of that is a mystery. Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas as the old saying goes.
