Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
Has everyone forgotten Microsoft's oft repeated pattern to take over a market? "Embrace. Extend. Extinguish." e.g. Front Page's "extensions" to HTML, so that you had to use IE to view a page. Remember what happened when Microsoft "embraced" Java? Sun was smart enough to have gotten a ironclad agreement with Microsoft that prevented them from polluting the language, but M$ tried anyway. They lost in court, thank goodness, or Java would be dead now.

Adobe just wants an agreement with Microsoft to prevent that from happeneing to what's now a universally accepted pdf language.

By the way, I don't like Adobe any more than I like Microsoft. But I'm glad that they learn from history.
