The Major Labels don't want Bands getting known before they can get the band to sign a contract enslavign them to the label. The internet allows this, I've seen it happen personally as the concert hall across the street is filled weekend after weekend and people traveling 3 to 4 hours to catch the shows. All from P2P promotion and chatting. If the Labels don't think they need to change thier business model then they can go out of business.
