The nominal rate that an artist gets paid is 8 cents per cd, split between all the artists who worked on that cd, minus fees.

Where does the rest of that $18.95 go?

if you were to send a single penny to the artist for each song you download they would make more money than if you bought the cd.

The recording industry should just scrap their 'starving artists' argument and tell it like it is. They're rich and they want to become richer by gouging consumers.
