Who say they will release a violent criminal?
This guy commited a a crime. It hurts a lot of people too. What about all the people buying a product they though was legit that wasn't. Then think of losses that all of suffer in terms of pensions and investments because software companies don't make any money or they go bankrupt. It happens, not to Microsoft but to others and it's that other most people have investments in.

This guy is a criminal and deserves to serve time in prison. There could be alternatives to a lock up however but there still needs to be a punishment there.
