OK, the software industry is not hurting because they build the costs of piracy into the price of the software. Employees get paid, Adobe and Microsoft are making handsome profits, so who really loses because of piracy? Buyers. Products are priced based on how many units are actually sold, not used. Any money collected from cases like this ought to be rebated to customers who paid based on the anticipated losses associated with piracy. Based on this, software makers have made their own reparations. No need to pay back Microsoft for what is already built into it's price structure. It would be like paying them twice for the same work.

They're always telling us "theft hurts consumers" so we paying customers would therefore also deserve the reparations if a thief gives back what was lost.

As for the sentence, he and Ken Lay could've been roommates -- they're both con-men. What's good for the goose...
