The front runner makes a big target ...
..Now the one edge MS had (easy to use development tools) had been cloned using MS's own "innovation" strategy...

Now if only Scott had triedthe competition route over the litigation one sooner.

...Sun with a viable solution for the Visual Strudio crowd ...

Yes but,
www.mainsoft.com
has WimMain which allows compiling VB.net/C# into J2EE code.

Why take Sun up on the offer (of this theoretical tool)?
Can't see any need to move from VS, but the reverse?

..Corporations see a lower cost of deployment and maintanence...

They see this now by picking a single client, of whatever type.
This cross platform stuff is a red herring for enterprise applications (Intranets just need a browser).

..The last reason for Windows lock was Office, and thats quickly slipping away. Open Office works just fine as a replacement for Office 2000 and its predecessors..

Have they finished that Java VBA equivalent yet?
Why would I want to replace Office 2000?
So I could run Java?
But I can do that anyway.

More enlightnment please.
