"you dial 911 on your VoIP phone and your ISP is down AGAIN. Or what if your local police station is buried by a DDoS. Then what? The problem is that this technology isn't nearly as reliable as the "century old" telephone system. When lives are at risk, I want to be able to know that my call will go through. All the "bells & whistles" in the world don't mean squat if the basic functions don't work 100% of the time."

but the $$$ saved with VOIP will eventually win out over reliability, and you can be sure you will pay more for 911 service in the near future as what you currently spend is not enough to go around
