Actually I think it's the other way around
More likely that without Windows desktop systems, the computer you're posting from wouldn't exist.

Windows really did drive computer sales, so the fact that we can afford computers would most likely be do to price wars, driven by demand of Windows, an OS the average person could actually use. Otherwise, Apple would have a bigger share, though their already high prices would have been even higher, most likely out of range of most of our budgets...
