Don, I would make the same recommendation to a Unix shop moving to Windows

Its one thing to deploy an OS and accompanying apps. Its quite another thing to move an entrenched operation, intact, from one OS environment and ecosystem to another. I have seen this go both ways and I have heard just as many people cursing Windows as Linux, or Unix for that matter. Each OS has its peculiarities, unique capabilities and shortcomings, and the best way to manage moves is with extreme caution. I KNOW. I am helping a business to manage just such a move right now. And one day its "Wow, Linux can do that! Windows can't do that", the next its "I've done that with Windows for years, its just so simple, if Linux can't do it that just really sucks and is ... unacceptable." But somehow, slowly, we are making the transition. And thats the right way these things should be done. The fact that you think one can go out and do a major Windows roll out in a currently Unix or Linux environment and be instantly successful at it just shows that you have very little sensitivity when it comes to the concerns of the users and the customer. Thats where the real "smoke, mirrors, and political posturing" is. Even Microsoft, to their credit, would likely excercise more care in such a project. So the way you have chosen to comment in this thread only serves the purpose of bashing Linux on the desktop. Just because it doesn't happen to meet your needs (and I would never try to assert otherwise), doesn't mean that it is not capable of serving the needs of others. Your choice of words in your comments just goes to show that you are every bit as biggoted against Linux on the desktop as some of the Linux zeolots/biggots are against anything Microsoft. So go stuff that in your shirt pocket and think about it for a while and come back with some reasonable and informational content of the type you are very much capable of providing and give this garbage a break.
