Apple NOT first PC
Apple did not make the first PC. Giving away my age, prior to Apple II, were a small PC by M.I.T.S., several models by Scientific Ohio, and the Commadore16, Commadore 65, as well as a couple of models by Texas Instruments. Then there is also my long term favorite annoyance the TRS (Trash) -80 by Radio Shack. There were also some computers that I think pre-dated the Apple from NEC, Sanyo, and others.

Nearly all of these early computers had various operating languages. The Apple II was one among many. The Apple II language was not the same as any version of the MAC OS.

I should also point out that the use of a mouse and the GUI interface did NOT originate with Apple, it came from Xerox!

As to Billy Bob Gates, (okay, I am from Tennessee), he looks silly everytime he issues his view of the internet and the computing world. Yes, M$ is a convicted monopoly. That is nothing to be proud of, nor ignore. I would not bet the farm on the future of M$, nor would I do it on Apple.

Apple is too much of a bit player to have any future as a computer manufacturer. They cannot sustain themselves on less than 3% of the market. I think their future may well lie in the i-Pod and similar devices, providing they can remain competative and unique. The MAC is far too expensive from an initial hardware prospective and there is little software written for OSX, and a declining amount for Mac OS9.

M$ will be a victim of their own self image. They do not seem to understand that folks do NOT want M$ telling them directly or indirectly what they have on their desktop. The only thing that M$ can do to save themselves, long term, is to provide a clean, compact, and quality operating system, without web browsers, media players, etc. I am tired of the M$ patch of the day routine. So are many others. m$ grossly overcharges for the OS, and they are sitting on a huge pile of cash, meaning billions and billions of dollars.

What the future of the internet and computing really hold is somewhat unknown, but it is clear that people are looking hard at alternatives.
