Actually it IS today!
I was never going to get into this whole windows/linux war. Each OS has it's advantages and drawbacks but you neeed to know what they are before making judgements.
Most Linux distros have installation managers right on the desktop. Mandriva has it's software control center, Mepis, Ubuntu etc. have Synaptic and so on.
These allow you to browse through all the available software packages and install them with out ever going to a command line. Also you can update every piece of software already installed on your computer to it's newest available package with one click.

With Vista looking like it will cost almost $300, I am leaning much more to going strictly Linux soon!
