Perhaps you could clear something up for me....
"As an IT manager I have a service level agreement to meet on a fixed budget. Having access to quality support services is something which Linux cannot match."

... I have, over the years, been told that one advantage of Microsoft is the support they give their software. OpenOffice, I am told, is totally unsupported and therefore is rubbish when compared with MS-Office. Yet updates are regularly issued for both and the Microsoft support has done NOTHING about all the documents I've lost over the years when Word/Excel/etc goes belly-up - as it frequently does.

Recently Microsoft MVP's have been complaining about the lack of support their support deals got them in the WGA fiasco. The only times I ever phoned Microsoft support I was told that I should

a) Buy more memory
b) Upgrade Windows to the latest version
c) Upgrade Office to the latest version
d) Upgrade your anti-virus
e) Buy a faster PC

Hells bells - on Microsoft's training video for MS-Access under the section "Improving performance" they recommended a faster PC and more memory! No mention of getting your database design right!!!

It seems that the main difference between Microsoft support and "Linux support" is that one is free of charge and uncoordinated whilst the other is uncoordinated and costs a fortune.

"Oh, and I'd like fries with my burger, please."

No problem! Ketchup?
