Manager-that-owns-Microsoft-Stock standpoint
Are you running Oracle or DB2 or MySQL native on the Linux Servers? Can those servers be updated for multi-core muilti-processor techology? If you had to would you run Microsoft SQLserver in a virtual machine on those servers. I think everyone is working on this kind of issue. I suspect Novell shops that think they are running Windows Servers actually are running SUSE Linux someplace in the mix and as noted, any black box implemented for security purposes or disk backup is likely linux based. But from a manager-that-owns Microsoft-stock standpoint, none of that is likely acceptable to them.

It would be useful for Microsoft to do a white paper describing the reality of business computing, that for a viriety of reasons, other operating system and network products are desirable and that the pure Microsoft shop can never be achieved. I seriously doubt that Microsoft itself is pure. In otherwords they can not be eating their own dog doo at this point in history and still be an ongoing concern. All Microsoft is as unreasonable as 100 percent market share.

Does anyone really disagree?
