Others fix what Microsoft does not.
All one need do is look at Novell to see how Microsoft OS products can be supported in spite of deficiencies that are possibly purposefully left in old operating system products so that new Microsoft products can more easially replace them. Or F5 for that matter.

Any IT manageger worth his pay has put in a Linux F5 packet analyser to address virus and fire wall problems with old Microsoft Exchange. And all of those are looking to Virtualizing the user desktops so that old software can continue to be used even after Vista is rolled out.

Microsoft itself eliminated the licensing issues for businesses that prevented virtual desktops being implemented as killer web services because this model is so much better than the models of the past. That was back in July of this year. Today if a shop hasn't tried out a product like VMware its managment is up to something other than running an ongoing concern.
