All beings be them fishes or birds, bugs or humans are survivors of the gzillion lifeforms in the evolutionary tree.
In human evolution, humans fight over resources. Working as a team makes stronger military forces than strong individuals, so we teamed up originally on a genetic basis (tribe, people). As time went on, superstates developed, and people from a multitude of genetic backgrounds joined the same team based on culture, or religion or ideas.
But however they were still in opposing teams fighting over resources.
In this context, Nazi germany is totally understandable. (no matter how much the crimes make your stomach wretch).
