Ease of use
Being of the cut and paste generation myself I fully agree that for Java to succeed it has to be usable not just by a genius (wich I'm not).

An easy to use development tool should not just offer a nice gui but should offer cut and past components for a lot of tasks.

I use Codecharge Studio from yes software for web development and they got it right I think. I can port my designs from php to java,vb.net and perl with just a click on the button. Creating data grids is just a minute of work.
Not only does it allow me to use languages I'm not an expert in but along the way it even teaches me how to use those langueages just by looking at the code the software generates.
