Wrong comparison
Jobs has got it right pretty much every time. Apple lost market share dramatically in the late 80's and early 90's after they got rid of Jobs. The main reason was not lack of cloning, but because they forgot to innovate and simply milked their cash-cow almost to death.

After being sacked from Apple, Jobs created NeXT OS (essentially OS X) in the late 80s. Imagine if Apple had debuted OS X in 1991 instead of Mac OS 7? A 32 bit, multi-user, multi-tasking OS for consumers 10 years before MS were even close - now that would have been nice.

Jobs' biggest mistake was hiring John Scully - the man who deposed him at the head of Apple. I don't see too many other IT companies putting soft drink CEO's at the helm...
