AIX 5.3 is "much more" UNIX than previous releases
AIX in general has many good tools (performance monitoring) but they do like to create what I call thick layers of buraucracy to do system management. For even simple things you have to go through their ODM.

The problems start when something fails deep down in the hierarchy and it is not easy to identify the causes.

It does get a lot getting used to it and also going through the 10s of 1000s of documentation pages that keep getting modified continuously. Let alone that useful information is spread over manuals, redbooks and all kinds of rednotes / technotes, etc. that are spread all over their site.

It is a system that MANY hands have worked on and it easy to notice that the various groups need to keep in sync.

Have U seen JFS2 stalling or even crashing the entire system?

I've used HP-UX 11 briefely in the late 90's. It's OK.
