No DRM = no lock-in
MS' DRM is never going to be ported to anything other than Windows. MS has clearly seen Apple's success at using DRM as a lock-in device, so why give up that competitive advantage? Anyone with MS-DRM'ed files will have to buy Windows to watch them, now and forever.

In the long run, they may not have any choice. Given the mediocre (at best) sales of DRMed media, and the vast, continuing explosion of illegal filesharing, seems to me this battle has already been lost by the content providers.

Head over to eMusic and explain to me how Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, etc. are "garage bands".
