- Novell Mono C# conversion to Java
-
SUSE Sled from Novell restores the company's pre Microsoft monopoly business model. In particular its creation of a version of the OpenOffice.org Office Suite and inclusion with the Linux operating system product is reminiscent of the Worperfect Office Suite it abandoned owing to the illegal practaces of Microsoft and inability to make honest money in an environment that tollerated those practices. The copyright for OpenOffice.org Writer is held by Sun Microsystems. Fully noted by Novell. I assume money changed hands.
The Zdnet article being responded to begs for a followup because of the above and because there will be developers hoping to salvage failed .Net product line projects.
"While .Net lacks Java's wide availability on many different operating systems and processors, Microsoft released enough of the technology as an industry standard that Novell has released an open-source version, called Mono, that runs on Linux."
The conversion to Java is assisted with Mono. Nonetheless there are .Net to Java tools available for the transition. Lets see more articles on those tools and a comparison of office suites. Also needed are benchmarks debunking the myth of Java slowness when run on the multicore business PCs with modern operating system products including virtualization. Does Microsoft still lock out publishers from such articles by None Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and arangements that forbid benchmark comparisons? Is payment for favorable content taken? If so lets see an article on that. Zdnet is on the verge of greatness similar to Google. Some real good and value to the developer community is possible. Lets see more of it.
