Newspapers don't share stories?
"Smith said forcing Microsoft to share its server protocols
with rivals was akin to telling a newspaper that it has to
make its articles available to run in rival papers."

Smith needs to check the way the newspaper industry
works. For every "exclusive" story run by a newspaper, there
is at least one other story or photograph that is sent ot the
Associated Press for use in other papers, and yes, that
includes the AP member paper across town that's
competing for readers. Ok, I guess no one is "making"
newspapers share - except the readers, who will leave in
droves if the paper across town suddenly has a greater
variety of news, because it is living in the modern world,
and sharing stories with other papers.
