Marketing
---What I know to be true in marketing is that successful
products are the ones that differentiate themselves from the
pack and then prove to the world that they are better.---

This isn't always the case. Often, inferior products will win out
over superior ones for plenty of reasons, marketing, and price
being two prominent ones. That was the case for MS' rise,
creating the rise of commodity hardware.

---they are deliberately choosing a "me too" kind of product
presence---

I don't think that's what they're asking for. They don't want to
create a product that just duplicates what MS's product already
does, they just want their product to be able to interact with
MS's products.
