What is the issue here?
There are numerous references to the "fact" that Windows clients connect to Windows servers in some optimal way that is denied to other servers, yet there is never any discussion of the mechanisms involved.

I have a linux server with Samba and a couple of Win2K3 servers on my simple network and all seem to be able to connect to the WinXP clients about equally. The linux server might even respond a little quicker than the Windows server that is running on equivalent hardware. Just what protocols are at issue here?
