Finally a solution that will open up inter-operability

Really we don't need the fine, simply allow samba and
others to fully inter-operate with windows Active Directory.

Opening up the old SMB and NT-style authentication
protocols is a bonus, but the samba team has already
reverse-engineered this successfully.

Inter-operability with the other windows technologies (eg
WMP) is also essential for future competition.

It is important other Operating Systems should not be
locked out of the server market simply because of Windows
dominance on the desktop, something the EU and the
original DoJ team realized. At least the EU is doing
something about it!

The only party losing here is MS, but not their customers
which will have greater choice in the future.
