what they have to do?
Alter windows so wmp can be uninstalled. That's basically it. They have to offer windows with option of wmp not being present on the system. That does not have to mean that the underlying technology has to be cut out as well. On the contrary....the EU wants MS to fully disclose the undelying technique so they can no longer cripple thew competition. If the competition has the same acces to the underlying techniques they are no longer at a disadvatage compared to MS. Companies and end users can still CHOOSE to install wmp as the default player but the no longer HAVE TO.

This is not the most important part of this decision though.... it set's a precedent and imposes a watchdog upon MS. This means with longhorn they will not be able to bolt anything they like on to the OS just to get the competition out of the way. If they do....the watchdog can step in and swiftly remedie the situation.
