Where to use Linux
I'm a disabled vet and spend a lot of time playing on computers at home. I currently run various Windows, Xandros, Lindows, SGI Irix and Sun Solaris. When I was able to work I did tech support for Win 9.x, Win NT, Mac, DOS and OS2.

1) servers - almost everyone, except MS agrees that Linux is the answer for many server functions.

2)people like me who like to play. Windows even ME is very stable for me. I hack the registry untill I get it that way. Still, Linux is getting much better as a desktop OS. Xandrows and Lindows (Debian) are probably as easy or even simpler to upgrade and update than Windows, If you have high speed internet.

3)Windows has One killer problim. I recently bought a brand new computer, on sale, from Frys for $99.50. It was complete except for monitor. 600 mhz cpu, 30 gb hd, cdrom, nic, modem and some off brand Lunix installed. List price for XP Pro is around $300. I can add a monitor and CDRW and still come out for less $. A system builder can get XP home for around a $100. so he could probably sell a box like this for $250 to $300.

Americans can afford to spend 3 times as much to buy a box with a somewhat better user interface, the rest of the world, especially Asia, by in large cant. Linux is spreading like mad in Asia. This is true even though you can buy hacked copies of WinXP pro for around $1 just about anywhere
