"cryptic command "rpm -ivh "", what is that? did you run that from some kind of "DOS" window, what is this, the 70's? Do you mean in RH you cannot double click an exe file, have it install, then go to a menu button and actually see the program, click on it and have it run?

Like you said in the beginning, there is too much of the same junk and nothing moving forward. RH, MDK, and SuSE are getting prettier but try to actually do something and it turns into a "you have to configure something first" nightmare.

swiftnet said in a previous post "I have several desktop Linux users, the only
problems I encounter are certain web pages (poorly written code) don't work, or a Word
document comes in and it doesn't look right. That is about it." Thats because in Linux those are about the only 2 programs you can find and run, OO and a browser.

The "FONT" issue, Jose Jimenez's answer is totally typical of Linux ppl, go here get this and follow that. Did anyone actually go to the "And follow directions here:" page? I went to the part about "Adding TrueType or Type1 fonts to OpenOffice.org", it says to go to http://whiteboard.openoffice.org/source/browse/whiteboard/doc/SETUP_GUIDE/EN/new_ooo_setup_english.sxw which doesn't give any info. I did a search on spadmin and it came up with 35 hits.

Linux=search-read-configure-search-read-configure, finally get something installed, try to run the program and then, search-read-configure-search-read-configure...

Serious question, I use MDK 9.1 and installed the latest Netscape, how do I run netscape?
