Re: Windows is unstable and Linux has applications
Yes, linux has applications; But most of the desktop apps dont work well. At least dont work
well in a default installation.

Have you ever watched an interlaced video using mplayer ? Could you please tell me how to do deinterlacing in mplayer. My WinDVD player does it by itself. No need to give any parameters in a command line etc.

Could you please tell me how to install some nice looking fonts for open office. My Word 2000 shows hundreds of good fonts in the default installation. Why is a simple thing like installing a font so difficult in Linux ? Even after installing a font, why is it not available to all the applications ? Do linux guys do some special programming to make things complicated so that an average guy will not be able to setup, use and install things in linux ?

Could you please tell me how to install an application in linux without fighting for resolving dependencies. XMMS doesn't play mp3 music on my Redhat machine (default installation). I understand their concerns about the licensing. Thats OK with me. But then, I downloaded XMMS rpms for the exact same redhat release from XMMS website. Tried to install using the cryptic command "rpm -ivh ". It cribbed about two dependencies and aborted the installation.

How does a regular computer user - yes I mean a regular computer user; not a computer geek ever work with linux if things are going to be like this ?

I gave my linux installation CD to many of my friends(At least 5). Many of them installed it on their computer. But not even a single guy is using it. Why is it so ? Because there are no good applications that works fine with a default installation. And they dont want to waste their time for downloading, installing and resolving endless dependencies to make just one application work fine.
