Sorry John, but Govenrment has always been involved in product design ...
When they busted up AT&T, when they established safety standards for cars, lawn cutters, wood choppers, electrical power grids, security devices and protocols at airports, reinforced doors on airline cockpit doors, etc.

Microsoft is like a gunslinger from the wild west who has been shooting all challengers in the back. The sheriff steps in and says you cannot do that; if you're going to have a shootout, you have to do it in the front. What you're saying is ... nobody has the right to tell the gunslinger how to run his life.

You really have to consider that point strongly, and if you don't, then you are as guilty as the gunslinger for not acting properly to prevent the gunslinger from hurting others.

If Microsoft can run their company without rules, how long will it be before they starting doing things that are criminally illegal, rather than just being illegal under anti-trust?
