Um, it's the precedent
That's what BOTH sides are arguing in this case. Those opposed to Microsoft see the EU ruling as the first step in "reining in" Microsoft's tendency to bundle everything imaginable into the OS. Those supporting Microsoft in this ruling see this as an unprecedented intrusion by a governmental entity into product design and marketing.

In both cases, it's not the issue of WMP but the issue of future design decisions by Microsoft. That's why it's so important.
