..We need a version of Windows that is less capable of being hacked. A version of Windows that is less capable of screwing up installed software that competes with Microsoft's offerings. We need a less capable version of Windows that we can tailor to our needs....

First, who is the 'we' you refer to. Who do you claim to represent?
The rest of your rant has very little to do with the case at hand. At best you'll have no WMP and Sun will have access to some protocol information.

...We can strip out Media Player and IE out of XP today using third party apps, but why should be have to go to the trouble and expense of doing that AFTER we have been forced to buy a bunch of insecure junk that we didn't want to begin with?...

What percentage of the 'we' on your planet actually do this?
BTW, who forced you? MS voices?
Now consider the inconvenience for the masses just to satisfy the whining of the 'less capable' types amoung us.
