EC's Ruling Hurts, not Helps the PC Market

It is amazing how anti-trust law is supposed to benefit markets but the PC market has virtually no interest in the EC?s remedies. Who wants to buy a version of Windows that is less capable than what is available, and can lead to costly compatibility headaches? The EC?s remedy of having MS produce a version of Windows without a Media Player will lead to: less value for consumers; greater expense in time, money, and confusion regarding what consumers need to ensure all Windows applications work with their OSs; greater expense to OEMs handling calls by purchasers who are surprised to find out that the version of Windows without Media Player they bought does not behave the way they expected; more headaches for developers who have to field support calls explaining why their application does not work with the version of Windows that does not have Media Player; etc.

The EC has proved once again that product design decisions are best left to producers of those products and markets; and that bureaucrats should be careful about how they meddle in the market place.
