RIAA=clueless
The RIAA and the record industry fail to appreciate they have seen the enemy and they are the enemy.

If the industry did not keep turning out such total and complete junk. I do not mean just from a lack of quality in the artist (?), the songs, and the performance, but from the quality of production.

CD's are grossly overpriced. If they dropped the main line list price to under $10 I suspect they would see a surge in purchases. Paying $16 for a poorly engineered piece of junk only exacerbates the total lack of quality material. Why would myself or my son buy a $16 CD when there is only one or two songs on it that are any good.

Charging a $1 (US) for a single song download is also hard to justify. What are the material costs? There is little. However, the RIAA and the record companies have screwed that up also. They are degrading the quality of the download in order to encrypt it.

I have not bought a new CD in more than a year. I refuse to support the RIAA actions with my purchase. I do not do file sharing either. I have found a wonderful store that sells USED CD's and DVD's for less than half of the new retail price, and sometimes much less. It is the RIAA that is killing the recording industry, as well as the poor quality of produce the record industry is turning out.

As a good example. How many Michael Jackson greatest hit anthologies is Sony going to release? His new stuff will never match Thriller, because the thrill is gone for him. So Sony recycles the old stuff. Sony, get a clue! Jackson records a couple of new cuts and they repackage old stuff, or "alternative recordings" of old stuff, trying to pass it off as something new.

A new young and highly talented artist could quickly get lost because who wants to risk $16 for a CD, with an artist that may well be a one-hit-wonder. Especially if people do not hear their other material.

RIAA needs to crawl under the rock from which they came, taking the record companies with them.
