SuSE says.
As a separate company, SuSE hired a number of new Presidents trying to attain profitability and never quite managed.

And even if it were possible to make SuSE slightly profitable on its own, would that profit be enough to support the rest of Novell?

I think Novell should have emphasized its other products in addition to SuSE. But then, I am not a highly paid Novell executive.
