It works just fine
This is a non-issue.

As a user of SLED 10 and SUSE 10.1 I can tell you that this is not a problem. The products ship without the proprietary modules and video drivers but they are easy to install through online update for those who want them.

I myself think the FSF goes a little too far. They are going beyond the realm of voluntary free software and trying to use the GPL to coerce everyone else into making their proprietary code into free software. While I prefer free software I respect the right of others to keep their code proprietary even if I don't agree with that choice.

If nvidia wants to allow me to use their proprietary drivers for my Linux boxes for free then I'm cool with that. Although I find no need for them as I'm not into wasting time on games.

This is actually a great way for Novell to give people a choice. This is a great option for FSF purists as well as those who want the proprietary drivers. It's all about choice.
