Oh, give me a hard one!!
tell me one major PC workstation retailer who advertises a fully configured OS other Windows on their latest, top-of-the-line machine.

Apple. Is the 4th largest in the US big enough for you? BTW, you must pay for an OS (no naked Macs) and it must be OSX so even Apple restricts your choice of OSs even though the hardware is more than capable of running any OS. You did specify non-Windows so Apple certainly answers your specific question.

Regardless, are you suggesting that if Walmart doesn't carry it, it doesn't exist? Silly. There are thousands of small-medium sized PC resellers who will sell you naked PCs. Face it, the demand for a fully configured OS other than Windows/OSX is not yet big enough for the major PC resellers to sacrifice their "one size fits all" assembly line cost advantages. Even Apple refuses to sell you a Mac with anything but OSX installed on it because it is expensive to support a second OS that only a tiny fraction of your customers are going to use on the machines they buy from you. That doesn't mean there isn't a choice, it just means that your desire not to be stuck with Windows/OSX needs to be fulfilled by a company other than Dell/HP/Gateway/Apple. Since other companies most certainly do exist (like Tiger Direct who, last I checked, sell naked PCs at a discount), consumers absolutely do have a choice!

Sheesh, give us a tougher challenge next time! happy
