You're right, but you're wrong
You're right. They do have a monopoly in the OS market (monopoly as defined by 80% of the market). But I don't think they're looking to crush one or all of these companies. I think you're looking at nothing less than the evolution of Microsoft from a company providing a product or service, into a company along the lines of AOL/Time/Warner.

Either that, or they are ultimately looking to merge with one of those type of companies.

Microsoft is getting too big to "just" be a software company anymore. It's kinda in a Chrysalis-stage right now. Either it changes, and emerges as a "new" kind of Company, or it will die.

And that's the way of the world (the real one, as well as our own computer-induced fantasy one).

Will MS survive? HArd to tell at this date. But note this: There is too much tied up in this company security-wise (THink National security here, ok?) for The US Government let it crash and burn.
