This is what caught my eye from the article:
only directly restricts DRM in the special case in which it is used to prevent people from sharing or modifying GPLv3-covered software
This suggests to me that DRM is going to be allowed depending on what it is being used to protect. What you can't do is what TiVO did: protect GPLd code with DRM so others can't benefit from your changes. What you can do is protect anything that isn't GPLd (like audio, video, proprietary source code), even if the protection is coming from GPLd code (like the Linux kernel). There is a difference between putting DRM enforcing code into the kernel and DRM protecting the changes you make to the kernel (like TiVO did).
If that is the principle of GPLv3 and the only problem is that the legal wording doesn't properly convey that principle, then it is the wording that needs to be fixed. The principle (if I understand it as I've written it above) seems fine to me.
Linus T. understands this and it is why he has said it must be part of the kernel.
If that truly is his only objection, then I have a hard time seeing how he could be against GPLv3. Let's give him a chance to review these changes. There might also be something else going on here that has nothing to do with DRM and DRM is just being used by Linus as a convenient excuse to not move to GPLv3.
