What?? The US in debt???
For the last several decades the US economy has lacked any meaningful productivity. Instead, it has turned vapor in to paper money to pay for wars, social benefits, corporate fraud and foreign imports.

Countries exporting consumer products to the US have tolerated accepting our dollar promisary notes for the short term benefit of selling stuff to us and thereby growing their own economies, and in the long term hope that some day, some way, they would be able to buy something worthwhile from us with all that paper.

Let them try. As the Japanese found out, we'll swindle them, via real estate deals or whatever, and show them just how worthless our money really has become.

Did the EU invest in America? Too bad for them. Would you invest in America? Even individual Americans--especially those who have lost a ton of money in the stock market--are wising up.

Most of all, look at corporations like Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and IBM, who have figured out that investing in India and China is a better bet.

Sorry, EU.
