Which games?
Mind giving out a list of the games that you play on Linix?

I have tried Unreal on Linux a while back and couldn't it to run on my setup, which was pretty good at the time.

The GUI shouldn't have anything to do with how a game performs unless you're running low on memory, which in that case I guess it could help. But with 512MB which just about any machine comes with these days, it ani't goanna make much difference.
