As I said in a previous post, if you are .com, .net, .ws, .info, etc then your website must be registered thru a US company. This does give the US some theoretical leverage in enforcing content standards.

The same would be true for going in the opposite direction and making a .kids top-level domain.

Actually enforcing content standards on millions upon millions of websites is another matter.
