Speaking of SOA and death of packaged apps...
That's only partly right: Death of packaged? more true than the hubbub over SOA. OSS is killing proprietary...that's the more important trend. Who will spend $500 on MS Office when they can get the job done as easily with OOo for free? Who will spend $4000 on IBM's WSAD, when they can use MyEclipse for $20? WebSphere is exorbitantly priced...why not go JBoss? The trends are there, and the F500s are moving. SOA is just yet another way to integrate, and not always the best way. The real news here is that IBM and M$ need to find future revenue streams. Focusing on SOA isn't going to do that for them.
