! OS X
Sorry you're both a little off base -- first off let's be clear for the
record that Apple has NOT even come close to some of the
schnanagins that Microsoft likes to pull. So debating on whether
Apple were to do the WGA thing is moot at this point of time.
Heck, I don't even require an obnoxiously long serial number to
install OS.X nor to I have to validate it once I do -- and I can add
and remove hardware to my hearts delight. The only
requirement to legitimately install/use OS X at this point in time
is a ... Mac. happy

As for having this feature already built into OS X -- you are
wrong. Apple has added a feature to validate if dashboard
widgets came from their website (only theirs) -- and to check if
there are any updates to any of the widgets you have installed
which may be available through there website. This in no way
dis-allows me from installing and/or using any widget I wish
regardless of where it came from and/or if I wrote it myself. It
doesn't stop me from you another widget manager/program
such as Yahoo!'s flavor. It won't stop me from using my
computer. It won't lock me out of my computer. It won't stop my
computer from booting or nor stop me from logging in. It won't
nag me -- and certainly won't force me to call Apple for
acceptance to use my computer which I already bought and paid
for.

The ONLY thing Apple screwed up on with this feature so far is
the inability for the neophyte to easy uncheck "check for
updates" -- probably in System Preferences --> Dashboard &
Expose (both of which I like very much happy. It does NOT stop the
"guru" or anybody not scared of "the green screen" terminal to
disable it TODAY by simply editing a plain-text XML file. Heck --
almost all of Apple's configuration files are XML time and even a
higher % are plain-text ... with none of them inter-dependant
upon each other or will lead to a catastrophic system failure like
a corrupt Windows registry can.

Apple != Microsoft. Not even close...

PS: my other OS is, of course, Linux... happy
