Firstly, No_Ax, SUSE charge for the SUSE distro. Free software means Free like the french liberte, not the french gratis. As english this is "Free" as used in Freedom, not "free" as in "free peanuts in this bar" or "free media player with this operating system".
Secondly, the only company that does not produce cross-platform software is Microsoft, as they try to "leverage their Operating System Monopoly".
So where does the shock and awe come from of finding out that it is actually possible to make cross-platform software. Note: many free software projects have been cross platform for years and years - Mozilla, OpenOffice, Dia, Gimp and so on.
