Six years ago, Windows 2000 had already been out for a year and a half. And Windows XP was about to come out.

Microsoft issued three release candidates between July and November 1999 for Windows 2000, and finally released the operating system to partners on December 12, 1999. The public received the full version of Windows 2000 on February 17, 2000.
