But to paraphrase some of your sayings... "Open Source won't pay the bills".

So, some folk from Microsoft have left (for whatever reason), and now they are doing this web service out of feeling sorry, and are prepared to bleed money (because if you are right they won't be making any). What's more they have investors backing them too.

Most people don't like losing money, so I guess these guys and their investors see an opportunity to make money. That's not to say they will become rich and famous, but it should be clear to even you that they are feel they can make a bit of money with this service.
