Breathtaking lack of understanding
Our new apps already open our old docs. Hell, Word opens my old WordPerfect docs.

As to new documents not being able to be opened by older apps - well duh! If the new version supports 3D holograms that have just been invented, how is the older version supposed to? Formats have to progress and sometimes this make it hard for older apps to open the new docs - try and get an early Adobe reader to open the latest PDF.

Besides, isn't this what the cultists complain about all the time, MS being wedded to supporting legacy apps and earlier OSs unlike Apple who can afford to turnover their small user base each time.
